Susan was born in Managua, Nicaragua. She grew up in a musical family. Her father, Talmadge Bryan, was the organist at the First Baptist Church. Her mother, Dina, sang in the choir and as a soprano soloist. Susan was exposed to the music of the great composers such as Bach, Handel, Mozart, Beethoven, and others from an early age. The majority of her relatives are pastors and ministers of music. She is fifth generation musician.

Susan began her musical education at the age of seven when she would sit at her Dad's lap at the end of each service to play the organ. Fascinated with the intricate shape and the variety of sounds, she was impressed with the instrument. Nevertheless, her dad bought her a piano and began teaching her hymns and classical music. Soon after, at thirteen years old, she started taking organ private lessons with Federico Arentz. She learned to play disco, dance, bossanovas, cumbias, and romantic Spanish songs- all mostly by ear. As a result, during the seventh month of private lessons, she was the second prize winner of a High School musical competition. Susan developed a keen ear and was able to play anything she heard.

At an early age, Susan became an acclaimed organist in her town for private events, including a television commercial demonstrating Hammond organs.

Later on, Susan moved to the United States to further her education and to participate in her uncle's church as a pianist/organist. She then married a Michigan State University graduate, Joseph Davison. They have two bright children named Richard and Marla.
